Building a college internet distribution system

From June 1994 through October 1995, I was Director of Internet Strategy and Webmaster at Progressive Media & Collegiate Communications Group, Inc. in Seattle. The focus was connecting universities, students, scholarship information and advertisers during the first wave of the public web.

The products and network

I conceived, developed, and managed CampusCentral.com, a collegiate web portal, and ScholarSearch.com, a scholarship discovery database. The program joined online resources with a national campus distribution model rather than treating websites as standalone brochures.

My contemporary professional history also describes work on PointCast College Edition, a push-media distribution initiative. The exact release timing of that initiative should be established from original product records rather than inferred from this employment period.

Scaling the reach

The collegiate internet promotional campaign distributed one million Students Choice advertising packs across 40 universities, as reported in my professional history. This connected on-campus print distribution with online discovery and advertiser reach.

Why this work matters

These were early experiences building connected networks across institutions, customers, information and distribution channels. They precede my later e-commerce and venture ecosystem programs and are part of the foundation of the systems-oriented work I do today.

Descriptions such as “first-ever collegiate portal” are historical claims that still require independent source corroboration.
